Baptisms

The birth of a child is always something to celebrate. It might also be a time when we want to say thank you to God for the safe arrival and the gift of new life. At St Mark’s we are delighted to be able to offer a service of thanksgiving which gives this opportunity and can be part of a Sunday service.  This is not a christening so there is no need to choose godparents and no need to make public promises to God which you may feel you are not ready to make.

However many parents want to bring their child to be christened (baptised). If this is what you would prefer please contact the church office 01959 577816 and we shall be very happy to arrange for someone to visit you to discuss the service. We can then explain why for instance Godparents must be baptised already to be able to make the promises required. We will also have a letter to give to Godparents explaining their role.

Baptisms usually take place at 12.30pm on a Sunday morning, but they can also take place during the main Sunday service at 10.30am. We will also arrange a date for you to attend a ‘Presentation before Baptism’ in church. This normally takes place at our 10.30am All Age Worship service on the 1st Sunday of the month, where there is lively music and things are fairly informal (the service lasts just under an hour). You are of course welcome any other Sunday at 10.30am.
